Galveston is estimated to have a history that dates back about 5,000 years. Indians originally inhabited the area, particularly the Galveston Island, about 500 years ago.
Sea Gull Shores Beach is a wonderful area to explore the natural beauty of the area. You can take harbor cruises or tours and indulge in a bit of offshore fishing if you wish. Just remember that if you are over the age of 17, you must possess a fishing license. The Sandcastle Beach contains an educational wetlands preserve which is a wonderful place to take children who wish to learn about the sea life in the area. Sea Shell Beach boasts ten miles of beautiful white beaches and rolling waves that entice the seafaring boat owner or fisherman. Stewart Beach, however, is the most popular beach, due to the fact that it is family oriented. It sponsors sandcastle competitions and volleyballs competitions for the entire family throughout summer vacation season.
